ICT innovators’ contest slated for Kigali

This year’s ICT Innovators Contest in the ICT sector will be held in Rwanda’s capital Kigali.

Dubbed as Pitch, its open to the public but technology students and professionals are highly encouraged to attend.
The competition, expected to attract ICT entrepreneurs, innovators and start up business people to battle out, will offer technology innovators in an opportunity to show their creativity and talent.

DOT Rwanda Communication and Alumni manager Grace Mugabekazi said the ICT has established opportunities in Rwanda by opening up the market to provide new forms of employment and trading.
“I know there exist, great innovations developed by local ICT entrepreneurs that are the solutions to Rwandan market while our youth are researching to come up with solutions that can work for East Africa as a region,” Mugabekazi noted.
Those Interested should submit their application documents in English language or be in a position to translate .The startup business is restricted to the technology area and must be profit-oriented.
10 finalists will square it out by delivering their business pitches on September 12 at Kigali’s Lemingo Hotel before a panel of experts
The national winner will travel to Silicon Valley in the United States for a showdown of finalists in January 2013. The top ten runners up will benefit from networking services courtesy of financial institution and venture firms.
In Rwanda, aspiring innovators have founded ICT start ups like, The iHills, it manages of all Young Rwandan Entrepreneurs in ICT. Also, KLab provides solutions to websites and mobile gadgets.

The ICT Chambers at the PSF and the Rwanda Development Board are organising partners of the Startup World Kigali event.

Startup World is an international project based in California US targeted to promote business, entrepreneurs and technology at an early stage through a world competition to mark global’ s most innovative businesses product .The organization, alongside Rwanda Development Board, will sponsor the event.
This is the first time an African country is hosting the conference because of its prowess in developing ICT as a crucial sector in growth agenda. The event will later roll out to South Africa,Tanzania and Kenya as the host nations.
Tech entrepreneurs, innovators and early stage business leaders are advised to submit their applications to www.startupworld.com before 31.08.
The event kicks off on September 12.
