Airtel consolidates reputation as Nigeria’s top innovator

Interpreted telecommunications operator Airtel Nigeria bagged three industry awards at the eighth edition of the Nigerian Telecoms Awards held on Saturday at the Incubator Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Airtel was named overall best in the three categories including the Industry’s Most Innovative Telecom Company of the Year, Telecom Brand of the year and Customer Friendly Operator of the year beating a number of other competitors.

The honours are a result of Airtel’s remarkable efforts in fronting for new ways to meet the demands and needs of its stakeholders through a wealthy portfolio of innovations, superior brand experience ranging from its voice solutions to date packages and mobile broadband, reads the Awards’ citations.

Commenting on the Customer Friendly Operator Award, the organizers of the Awards said this is the third time Airtel Nigeria tops in the Customer Service category in the history of the Nigerian Telecoms Awards thus demonstrating the commitment the company’s management gives to treating Airtel’s customers as more than just a connection.

Airtel brand has maintained its focus of meeting the needs of the telecommunications consumers across Nigeria right from the time its was launched in the country in November 2012, according to the Awards’ citation.

Apart from spreading out exciting telecoms offerings including 2Good Time, Quick Talk, 3.75G, Airtel 5X and Special RCVs for Data/Internet consumers among several others, the telco has provided reliable network to its customers, according to the citation.

Mr. Rajan Swaroop, chief executive officer and managing director of Airtel Nigeria said the awards are testimony to the enterprising and resilient spirit of staff of the company.

Everyone at Airtel Nigeria is passionate about creating value for telecoms consumers as well as exceeding their expectations, he said.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Telecommunications Awards, Chief Alex Akinyele said the awards are sustained by credibility, describing the Industry event as the most credible in the Nigerian Telecoms space.

He pledged that the Board of Trustees will continue to live above board to retain the credibility of the Awards among stakeholders.

Headquartered in New Delhi, India, Bharti Airtel Limited operates in 20 countries across Asia and Africa.

In Africa, the airtel brand is present in both Francophone and Anglophone markets spanning Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. In these countries, it offers 2G, 3G mobile services.

Bharti Airtel had over 262 million customers across its operations at the end of July 2012, according to the company.

The company ranks amongst the top five mobile service providers globally, in terms of subscriber base.
