Safaricom’s annual general meeting will be held at the Bomas of Kenya, on Thursday, September 12, with agenda items including the approval of dividends and amendments to the articles of association.

According to an advertisement placed in local newspapers and signed by company secretary Enid Muriuki, shareholders will be expected to receive, consider and adopt the audited financial statements for the year ended March 31, 2013.

The shareholders will also be expected to approvel a first and final dividend of KSh0.31 per share, up from KSh0.22 offered last year and payable to shareholders on the register of members as on the close of business on September 12, 2013.

This can be attributed to a 47 percent jump in the company’s pre tax profit to hit KSh25.5 billion (US$587m) in the period.

Non executive director Susan Mudhune, whose tenure will expire during the meeting, will also be offering herself for re-election having joined the board in May 2009.

Under special business, the shareholders will discuss the amendment of articles 88 and 140.

The company is also urging shareholders with dividends less than KSh70,000 (US$800) to register so they can receive the money through M-Pesa.
