Cellcom expands Internet usage with FOC launch

Major Liberian mobile provider Cellcom GSM has assured its subscribers it will provide very fast internet services with the introduction of fibre optic cable connectivity for users on its 4G network.

Dr Kimmie Weeks, the company’s Corporate Communication Strategist, said they were the first network in the country to use the new cable.

According to him, with the fibre optic cable complementing its existing 4G technology, Cellcom GSM subscribers will enjoy double speed.

Weeks said: “We have waited for a very long time to see the fibre cable in Liberia. Essentially what that means is we’ll now be able to remove ourselves from using satellites to fully deploying Cellcom 4G network, fully empowering it using the fibre cable.

“There will be double speed from 21mb per second to 42mb per second; that is a huge jump and a huge improvement.”

He also said Cellcom is preparing to launch the iPhone 5 and HTC Evilm 4G Plus in addition to an Internet modem with larger speed and capacity that will enhance and greatly improve the satisfaction of Cellcom GSM’s subscribers.
