Since the launch of Samsung’s five-year plan for Africa in 2012, the tech giant is showing considerable growth within the continent.
The electronics giant said they were on track and intend to grow Samsung Africa into a US$10 billion entity by 2015. Efforts so far have seen Samsung represented in every African country.
More than two years ago, Samsung was physically present in seven countries in Africa, now the company is in 32 countries, which are represented through Samsung channel partners or their staff.
Samsung reports the largest drivers for sales are mobile devices, especially smartphones. The affordability of data is encouraging the increasing migration from feature phones to smartphones.
Tablets are also described as a strong growth aspect for Samsung. Similarly to South African telecommunications company Telkom, Samsung is planning to team up with education departments throughout the continent to supply tablets to schools in order to help develop a tech-savvy generation in Africa.
The African market can expect a new range of Samsung smartphones, which will be launched in Cape Town, South Africa, in March. The new Galaxy music smartphones are to be launched in partnership with a prominent music label.
