Fake Nandos Oscar Pistorius linked advertisement causes furore on social media

A fake Nando’s advertisement mocking the arrest of Oscar Pistorius for allegedly shooting his girlfriend in his home has surfaced on social media, with Nando’s distancing itself from the ad.

The image reads: “We don’t shoot our chicks, we flame grill them”.

Nando’s has tweeted: “We’re aware of a fake ad circulating today connected to the Oscar Pistorius case. Just to be 100 percent clear, it has not been created by Nando’s.”

The poster or image was created in the usual Nando’s fashion, though the font is reportedly slightly different.

The tweet was also posted on Facebook. Nando’s has also been responding to individual comments on Facebook, clearing the restaurant’s name.

This follows angry comments on both Facebook and Twitter calling the restaurant “disgusting” and “sick”  as well as calling for a boycott.

Others were amused, while others are asking how they can be sure it was not created by Nandos. The reactions are continuing to flow in on Facebook and Twitter.

Some commenters are saying the advertisement sounds typical of Nandos and ask why the restaurant is “chickening out”.

Oscar Pistorius, South Africa’s famous Olympic and Paralymic track athlete, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, and appeared in court today.

Onlookers tweeted that he was seen “sobbing” as he left the court in Pretoria.
