The 3rd Annual East Africa Banking and ICT Security Summit – themed ‘Strengthening Banking and ICT Development in East Africa’ – will be held on April 25 in Kampala, Uganda.

The one-day conference will centre on key security issues on core banking systems, software, mobile banking, cards and payments, fraud and risk management solutions. It will also explore solutions to banking fraud, IT security threats, risk and regulatory issues affecting financial institutions, government agencies and other organisations.

Organiser Cyber Security Africa said security systems risks have been identified as the biggest challenge for many organisations in the region.

Cyber Security Africa alliance manager Sammy Kioko said: “We are targeting players in the financial services market, information technology security providers and even government agencies.”

He said delegates from different fields globally will identify the technical, environmental and business risks that lead to service vulnerability, weaken consumer confidence and ultimately erode brand value, thus causing revenue declines.

According to him, East Africa is well positioned to become the first region in Africa to develop comprehensive security for banks and IT systems. Poor IT and banking security had infiltrated all levels businesses and individual lives.

“The summit will discuss ideas on articulating and implementing appropriate risk management strategies, how to optimise internal processes and ensure systems and hardware infrastructures are robust enough to mitigate risk,” Kioko concluded.
