Google Glass appears on eBay for US$16,000

An ultimately wasted bidding war began on eBay last week when a man from Ohio, United States, claimed to have a pair of the sought-after Google Glass for sale.

The high-tech item, which allows hands-free video, picture taking and direction services, began at US$1,500 on Thursday, February 21, and reached US$16,000 on the online auction site before being taken down.

HumanIPO reported earlier this month the web giant was set to make 8,000 units available to “enthusiastic” American Google fans who are willing to pay US$1,500 for the first batch.

The seller on eBay posted with the item: “I’ve been selected as an early adapter for Google’s upcoming release. You are buying a brand new unopened pair of Google’s Project Glass glasses [SIC].”

An official full commercial launch is expected at the end of the year.
