South African information technology firm Dimension Data has acquired a 100 per cent stake in London-based cloud video managed services provider Teliris for an undisclosed amount in an effort to expand its Video Conferencing as a Service (VCaaS) facilities.
“The acquisition is in line with Dimension Data’s aggressive growth plans, and provides the Group with immediate scale in the cloud and managed video space,” the company said in a statement.
Dimension Data has seen numerous high profile acquisitions this year, in Januarybuying out the remaining shareholders in AccessKenya after the company’sacquisition last year. The technology firm also increased its presence in Europe and North America after purchasing United States (US)-basedNexus and subsidiaries of European business solutions companyNextiraOne.
Teliris, which was founded in 2001, provides cloud-based managed telepresence services, as well as immersive telepresence and videoconferencing facilities.
“The acquisition of Teliris is an investment in skills and expertise, and gives Dimension Data expanded scale to support the growth in our Managed Services for Visual Communications business,” said Steve Nola, group executive of Dimension Data’s ITaaS (IT as a Service) Unit.
“Teliris’ cloud capabilities complement Dimension Data’s existing portfolio of both cloud services and managed services offerings. This, combined with the excellent experience and skillset of the Teliris operational staff in the US and UK enables Dimension Data to accelerate the development of a true Video Conferencing-as-a-Service (VCaaS) offering to the market.”
Teliris chief executive officer (CEO) Jeff Tench said the company’s customers would greatly benefit from the move from the boardroom to the desktop, providing “a comprehensive set of managed services for the entire video and unified communications estate”.
