CONSAT pay-TV launches in Nigeria

A new pay-TV service, CONSAT, has launched in Nigeria, with chief executive officer (CEO) Mayokun Okunola saying the company is looking to offer citizens a true pay-TV experience.

The service is owned by Continental Satellite Limited, operators of TV Continental.

Speaking at the launch, Okunola said as Nigeria joins the rest of world next year in migrating from analogue to digital broadcasting, the new company is focusing on the English Premier League (EPL), entertainment and news.

“But what we don’t want to do is be in situation where we are paying hundreds of millions of dollars. We need to have conversation with other broadcasters and engage the regulator. We can come to the table and agree on models. We would like to bid but it has to be at a price we can afford,” he said.

He said CONSAT offers an affordable price and high quality channels, and aims to be the platform of choice by providing over 10 free channels for local and international content.

CONSAT also offers MPEG4 digital compression technology broadcasting of over 50 channels with a view to reaching over 100 channels in 2015.
