SA Presidency warns over fake Ramaphosa Twitter account

The South African Presidency has warned users about a fake Twitter account set up for deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa.

“The Presidency wishes to place it on record that the Deputy President does not have a Twitter or any other social media accounts,” spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said.

The government said it is in the process of asking the social media platform to remove the profile, and all information relating to Ramaphosa would be released through the @PresidencyZA Twitter handle.

HumanIPO reported last week the Department of Energy had warned the public about a fake Facebook account created for minister Tina Joemat Pettersson.

This comes after a fake account was also created for finance ministerNhlanhla Nene.

The government has asked the public to be vigilant when attempting to stay updated with ministers and departmental heads, saying individuals shouldaccess Twitter and Facebook accounts via departmental websites.
