SA’s MWEB receives extra capacity during Seacom outage

South African internet service provider MWEB has apologised to its customers for the disruption caused by the Seacom cable cut and is using Facebook to keep them updated.

HumanIPO reported yesterday customers on Seacom’s IP service were experiencing congestion because of the cut happened off the northern coast of Egypt on March 22.

But MWEB, which has more than 17,000 ‘likes’ on its Facebook page, has posted: “Seacom has been able to secure additional international capacity for MWEB on an alternative route. We are now running at almost 90% of our total requirement.

“We hope to have the remaining capacity in place within the next few days. Thank you once again for your patience during this outage.”

MWEB has also used their cover photo to apologise for any disruption.

The Seacom submarine cable project aims to provide broadband to Africa and Asia by running undersea cables from mainland Europe.
