The founder of Johannesburg accelerator Seed Engine has told HumanIPO he is “extremely hopeful” the six startups that pitched at Demo Day on Friday will receive follow-on funding.
Marc Elias said around 140 potential investors attended the event which showcased the businesses which each received ZAR100,000 (US$11,000) of capital from Seed Engine at the end of February.
Elias told HumanIPO despite the programme now finishing, the startups have remained in their offices and continue to receive support, mentorship and guidance in their pursuit of further investment.
He said: “I am extremely hopeful they will get the next funding. At the end of the day if our strategy was to work with them for three months and spit them out after Demo Day then that would show we were not that hopeful.
“But we want to keep working with them and continue that relationship.”
Among the startups pitching were digital brand protection innovation IntelliCred, online education community startup After-Class and online marketplace Cirqls.
Document aggregation service Zehoo, takeaway platform Chowhub and point-of-sale touch product OnQ made up the six startups.
