Pule investigations must continue – Shinn

The investigations into the conduct of former South African communications minister Dina Pule must continue regardless of her sacking, Democratic Alliance (DA) shadow communications minister Marian Shinn has said.

HumanIPO reported today Yunus Carrim was sworn in as Pule’s replacement following her sacking by President Jacob Zuma yesterday as part of a wider cabinet reshuffle.

But Shinn said Pule’s dismissal should not stop the Public Protector report on her connection with the ICT Indaba in Cape Town in 2012 or the parliamentary ethics and members’ interest committee report from being completed.

“It is of extreme importance that a clear message is sent out to all those who hold executive office that should they in any way misuse their positions that they will be investigated and held to account in terms of the law,” Shinn said. “Ms Dina Pule must be no exception.”

Shinn said she would write to the director of the Hawks, Anwa Dramat, to request an update on the investigations.
