The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) website was reportedly brought down by hackers from Gaza on Sunday night, who were seemingly targeting the exchange rate section.

A series of messages appeared on the site in both English and French, reports Standard Media.

The message posted by the Gaza Hacker Team said: “But all your interests and your citizens in all parts of the world will be our legitimate targets! So, if you want the safety of yourselves, possessions and interests from our revenge, Depart all soldiers from our land “Mali”.“

The report showed moments after the attack, CBK’s main portal could not be accessed.

Consumers from around the world experienced difficulties in accessing the site for information on exchange rates for various purposes.

The site however was brought back online at around 11pm.

The CBK is responsible for formulating monetary policy, promoting price stability and issuing currency.
