Nigeria to host 2013 World Cybersecurity conference next week

Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja will host the 2013 World Cybersecurity conference next week including presentations the First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan and Ehud Barack, Israel’s former prime minister.

HumanIPO reported on Wednesday Jonathan had been unveiled as the child online protection champion for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) next week’s event will be one of her first public appearances in the role.

The goal of the conference is to map out new strategies to secure government assets and individual security in cyberspace.

It is themed ‘Cyber Insecurity – A Latent Threat to National Security and Economic Development’.

Tim Akano, CEO of New Horizons Nigeria, one of the organisers, said: “Our objective is to address the issue of cyber insecurity which excludes Nigerians from transacting genuine business on some of the international payment systems and online retailing activities.

“More importantly, we are determined to build a solid foundation for cashless Nigeria in partnership with the office of ITU-IMPACT Champion on Child Online Protection.”

Other speakers include the internationally acclaimed certified ethical hacker and CEO/founder of Data Sentry, Tim Pierson.

Pierson will speak on Cyber Threats and Cyber Crime: The Future of the Nation, Business and Man.

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s deputy governor, Tunde Lemo will also speak on the pain, gains and journey ahead for the apex bank’s cashless policy.

Organizers of the event are the Office of the First lady of Nigeria, International Multilateral Partnerships Against Cyber Threat (IMPACT), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and New Horizons Nigeria.
