Mobile services in Borno state could jeopardise safety

The government of Borno State has said the region is not ready for the restoration of telecommunications services.

HumanIPO reported earlier this month some services in northern Nigeria had been restored but speaking today, Zannah Umar Mustapha, deputy governor of the state, said services in Borno could jeopardise the relative peace in the city.

Mustapha was speaking while hosting members of the Senate Committee on Defence, Police, Army and National Security, who were in the state on a courtesy visit.

The original state of emergency declaration by President Goodluck Jonathan was an attempt to curb the activities of the Boko Haram sect terrorising northern Nigeria.

Mustapha commended members of the committee, under its chairman, senator George Sekibo, for their interest in putting an end to the Boko Haram insurgency in the region.

Sekibo said they were in the state to assess the security situation.
