The teachers took the course, organised by the Rwanda Education Board (REB), last year. They will be charged with training counterparts in the same skills as part of a government strategy to increase ICT knowledge.
The initiative is part of a five-year ICT literacy awareness campaign organised by the Ministry of Youth and ICT.
Dr Evode Mukama, the head of ICT in the education department at the REB, told The New Times that 120 teachers will be assigned to each district.
“Since February, last year, we have been training these teachers and we now want them to contribute to the ICT development in education through empowering fellow teachers who are expected to teach ICT skills in the schools identified,” Mukama said.
The government hopes that the initiative will increase the quality of ICT teaching across Rwanda. The teachers will also be asked to educate local leaders and members of the public, using telecentres installed by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).
