HumanIPO reported yesterday on ICASA’s decision to allow TopTV to broadcast the channels after a public consultation process.
TopTV called the decision “a victory for democracy and freedom of speech”, but said they had always intended to offer the channels separately from its main bouquet.
“What Top TV proposed in its application is that the channels will be offered as a completely separate, stand-alone package to the current Top TV channel offering,” the pay-TV provider said in a statement.
“This will require a separate monthly subscription, age verification and other security features, such as a secure pin code, as outlined in Top TV’s submission documents to Icasa.”
It also said security measures would be implemented to ensure only willing subscribers would be able to access the three channels - Playboy TV, Desire TV, and Private Spice.
