The United Nations (UN) supported non-profit organisation (NGO) Millennium Village has been equipped with mobile communication services and SIM cards.
Toll-free emergency numbers have also been supplied for villagers as a communication channel to medical staff.
Sunil Colaso, managing director of Airtel Tanzania, said the operator is committed to help the community through the delivery of affordable telecommunication services.
Dedicated to reach marginalised communities without technology, Airtel will work with partners Ericsson and Earth Institute to assist Millennium Villages.
Millennium Villages aims to improve African poverty through the development of food distribution, connection provision, health training for community workers, commercial farming encouragement, malaria control and water installation and electricity supply.
The organisation partners with governments and local communities across Sub-Saharan Africa in 10 countries.
