The G-Connect In-Flight Wi-Fi was launched in May this year, but will now be offered free of charge to passengers flying between Johannesburg and Durban.
In offering the free service, the airline is hoping to set the world record for the highest Wi-Fi usage ratio achieved on flights.
“In line with our current above average uptake ratio of approximately 9-10%, our aim is to break all records with a target of more or less 20% of traveller volume on the route,” said Mango Chief Executive Nico Bezuidenhout.
The low cost airline is hoping to transport over 75,000 passengers on the Johannesburg/Durban route between December 11 and January 31.
Mango, together with G-Connect, is planning to include live television, limited games and on-demand entertainment to its passengers on its In-Flight Wi-Fi network.
