This was disclosed by Chike Maduaegbuna, Executive Director of FansConnectOnline, owners of the Nigerian application, in an exclusive interview with HumanIPO.
While Afrinolly will remain exclusively available on MTN Nigeria, it will be made available on more devices.
“Currently, in Nigeria, only MTN subscribers have full access to Afrinolly contents. This might change in 2013 depending on how we evaluate the market. We plan to launch Afrinolly for iOS, Windows Phone and Tablets in 2013,” Maduegbuna said.
Afrinolly is an app that allows users to watch trailers of movies that were produced in the African movie markets, especially in the Nigerian movie industry, popularly referred to as Nollywood.
Users can also watch African music videos, comedy productions and full-length movies on their mobile devices. Other features of the app are latest news and gossip on premiering movies, music and Africa’s superstars.
Within 10 months of introducing the app, it had more than 500,000 downloads. Currently more than one million subscribers of Nigeria’s largest telecommunications network, MTN Nigeria, are using it.
Since September, when it crossed the million download mark, it has continued to record more users across Africa. 65 percent of users are from Nigeria.
Other countries with residents using the app are Ghana, South Africa, USA, UK, Brazil and
India.
The app was developed in 2011 and is currently available on Blackberry, Nokia and Android.
