TomTom and !Waytag agree partnership

Share Tweet
Waytag, a location technology startup, has partnered with TomTom to provide its services on the in-car GPS company’s platform.

A !Waytag is a single word, unique address which individuals, businesses and various locations can assign so they can be looked up and navigated to on any Waytag-enabled map or navigation service.

Unlike traditional GPS navigation systems that require co-ordinates or a physical and fixed address, !Waytags are user-created, named and managed.

A user can also choose who they want to share theirs with, and they are always in complete control of the information associated with their !Waytags.

Danny Grobben, General Manager of TomTom Africa, said: “Waytags will revolutionise the way we will share our addresses or locations in the future.”

The differentiator with !Waytags is that should an individual or business change its address, the Waytag name remains the same and those who need to locate the business or individual will simply navigate to the new address by using the existing Waytag.

“We needed a global mapping solution that would be accurate and reliable so that Waytag users could position themselves with confidence, especially in areas where street addressing is inadequate,” said Warren Venter, Chief Executive and co-founder of Waytag.

The Waytag solution was developed using the TomTom Location Based Services application programming interface (API), which provides maps, routing and search capabilities. The Waytag iOS and Android apps are free and immediately available.
