LIBTELCO said with the cable it will be able to provide broadband interconnection to global telecommunications and Information Communication Technology (ICT) networks.
For effective distribution of the service, the company has divided its national implementation into phases.
Phase one of the project covers the entire metropolitan Monrovia area, including 18th Street, Sinkor up to Congo Town, Paynesville, Somalia Drive and Freeport.
When it becomes fully operational, the company’s subscribers will begin to enjoy the fastest telecommunication services on their mobile phones and on the Internet.
Industry experts also believe the ACE can speed up Liberia’s development with the creation of new business, increase career opportunities in technology, provide greater access to global markets and improve banking systems.
With the fibre-optic cable, the Liberian government will be aided in its efforts aimed at preventing crimes, enacting and implementing better police policies, improve record-keeping and its methods of communications.
The ACE Submarine Cable was initiated by LIBTELCO, and facilitated by the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA).
Liberia became part of the ACE Consortium in Paris, in June 2010, when the Managing Director of LIBTELCO, Ben Wolo, signed the Construction and Maintenance Agreement (C&MA) on behalf of the Cable Consortium of Liberia (CCL).
