Lebonaamang Mokalake, Botswana’s Minister of Lands and Housing, said that the project will be rolled out nationwide after after the successful completion of a pilot in 12 villages across the country.
The computerisation of land allocations is necessary to combat problems including illegal land use, double allocations of the same land, and failure to pay rates and lease agreement fees.
Mokalake said these problems were “rampant” in villages within the vicinity of cities.
The residents of Kedia, Letlhakane, Mokobaxane and Xere were informed that the ministry established a single housing authority, which is mandated for the implementation of all public sector housing delivery programmes.
Mokalake is of the opinion that this move will not impact negatively on the community.
