Glamour Kenya is betting on the increasing popularity of online shopping in Africa, especially in South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.
The online retail store is owned by Leonard Stiegeler, a former Sabunta co-founder and managing director, who is also the founder of Sunglasses, an e-commerce site for sunglasses and contact lenses.
Stiegeler also worked with South Africa’s largest online fashion site Zando as its business development manager, during his tenure seing the company expand its market share to become one of the most successful online fashion outlets in the country.
Just a week ago, HumanIPO reported Zando had reached over 10 million customers since it was launched in January 2012.
Stiegeler may be looking to duplicate the business model he employed while still at Zando to make Glamour Kenya a success.
For now, the Glamour Kenya website is yet to be officially launched, though customers can still subscribe to the website’s newsletter to receive exclusive offers before the launch.
Online shopping is gradually picking up in Africa, but as Manual Koser, the managing director and co-founder of Zando, told HumanIPO in an exclusive interview, “e-commerce is still in its infancy stage in Africa, and there also exists a number of Internet users who do not know how to shop online.”
