The Barcamp idea in Kenya was the brainchild of board of advisors Riyaz Bachani and Josiah Mugambi, together with David Kiania, David Kariuki, Eric Magutu and Nick Muttai and many others back in 2007.
Every Barcamp operates around a theme and this year’s theme is “Beyond 50”.
“As Kenya celebrates 50 years of independence this year, we have the unique and enviable opportunity to dream and contemplate what the next 50 years should look like and how technology will shape that future,” said Kiania. “As thinkers, technologists in various sectors, and citizens of this country we can begin the process of visualizing the future and shaping it.”
Kiania added that challenges such as access to healthcare, quality and equitable education and food security have their answers in technology, and that there will come a time in the next fifty years when these issues will not be the topic of discussion.
Barcamp Nairobi 2013 will be held at the iHub on Saturday 24th August, 2013 from 8.30am.
