Representatives of the West African Regional Communication Infrastructure Programme (WARCIP) have also approved the IXP which aims to complement the Africa Coast to Europe submarine cable which was launched in December, as it will be used as the main point for local web traffic.
IXP study report consultant, Michael Kende, described the report as a summary of options and suggestions on the various aspects of the IXP which are approved by stakeholders.
He said the IXP is affordable and cost-effective for internet service providers because it does not require traffic exchange via expensive international links.
Kende added the IXP significantly reduces latency and its lower cost provides internet users in Gambia with larger bandwidth.
Lamin Camara, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure, said the resolutions made concerning the IXP were collectively made by the various stakeholders.
He said: "We as a Ministry we are just here to facilitate, the IXP is here for you and you are the ones who are going to make use of its services.”
