David Smith, executive vice president of enterprise mobile computing at BlackBerry, said the solution will allow automakers to connect with their customers by providing the necessary updates through their secure network infrastructure.
The product was unveiled at the Telematics Detroit conference yesterday (Wednesday).
Smith said: “BlackBerry's Software Update Management for Automotive service can transform the vehicle experience by enabling automakers to deliver new, compelling capabilities to their customers, long after the initial sale."
BlackBerry claims their OTA service will provide secure global distribution and is highly scalable to support millions of vehicles.
The development of OTA services is part of BlackBerry's broader mobile computing strategy.
