Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer (CEO) of Microsoft, said the restructuring will “innovate with greater speed, efficiency and capability in a fast changing world”.
Since stepping into the leading spot formerly held by co-founder Bill Gates, Ballmer has emphasised the significance of internal partnering and cutting superfluous elements.
Channing Smith, co-manager of the Capital Advisors Growth Fund, told Reuters: “In theory, it’s a great idea. They key question will be can Ballmer deliver this new model and can it be successful?”
Product development will be geared towards the improvement of Windows and tablets to dominate the market with cloud computing and mobile.
Faster production is a definite goal, with innovative designs targeted at market needs evidently an urgent priority.
Senior managers’ positions have been altered to fulfil new roles as part of the company’s rearrangements.
"We are rallying behind a single strategy as one company — not a collection of divisional strategies," Ballmer said as published on Microsoft's website yesterday (Thursday).
