Bentley is described as a global leader in providing engineers, geospatial professionals, architects, constructors and owner-operators with comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure.
“We have a very large portfolio of different software products. Many of the software products - the individual names [of the products] come under what we term the MicroStation umbrella. These are infrastructure modelling tools,” said Biagi.
“There’s really three platforms that we provide, one is MicroStation, [which] is an information modeling environment developed explicitly for the demanding requirements of architectural, engineering, construction, operations (AECO), and geospatial professionals.
“It is ideally suited for all infrastructure types, and can be used either as a software application or as a technology platform for a wide range of discipline-specific applications from Bentley and others.”
Biagi said ProjectWise is a system of collaboration servers and services providing secure and managed work sharing, content reuse, and dynamic feedback capabilities for integrated projects that enable multi-discipline teams to collaborate effectively on big infrastructure programs.
“Quite often they’re working in distributed environments, so they might have teams in different locations around the world collaborating on the same project. They may also have multiple different teams from multiple different companies collaborating, effectively.”
The third platform offered by Bentley is called AssetWise, a system and service for asset lifecycle information management that support the owners and operators of infrastructure to help them more effectively operate and maintain their assets and improve performance. AssetWise comes after the functions of ProjectWise.
“What we would term [as] part of AssetWise is Asset Performance Management, so how we get into and really understanding the reliability and integrity aspects of infrastructure assets and looking to optimise maintenance [and] optimise the decision making around... where best to invest maintenance and capital investment money,” said Biagi.
AssetWise also includes Ivara Asset Performance Management, which provides a cohesive and integrated approach to developing, implementing, and managing a living asset reliability program”.
Biagi added: “It is a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for operational excellence that helps eliminate unexpected downtime, reduce operational costs, increase availability and asset utilization, ensure compliance with industry regulations and guidelines, meet safety, quality and operational targets, and eliminate islands of data.”
Biagi said the management of energy is one of the challenges faced by the infrastructure industry in terms of how data is gathered, tracked, trended and centralised as well as making it efficient to help make decisions.
