According to Ezirim, the committee is putting together the event as part of its commitment to the development of an efficient payment system in Nigeria.
He said the CeBIH believes in the reality of a functioning and efficient electronic payment system, which according to him is neither a myth nor impossibility.
The conference would have the theme “Developing a Market Structure that Works: Challenges and Prospects for the Nigerian Payment System”, he said.
“It is something that has been achieved in other markets. We are therefore, inviting all stakeholders, including experts from outside the country to appraise our performance [so far] as an industry and agree on the structure that would enable us achieve our full potentials in the midst of various challenges,” Ezirim added.
The conference, which will be declared open by Ade Shonubi, the MD of Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), will feature keynote addresses to be delivered by Ade Shonubi and Dipo Fatokun, the director in charge of banking and payments system at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The retreat will also feature speeches by internationally renowned experts in the field of electronic payment, including Pedro Hipolito (General Manager, SIBS International, Libson, Portugal); Martin Holloway (VP, Sales Africa & Middle East NEMEA, VeriFone U.K); Agada Apochi (Managing Director, Unified Payments System Limited); Amit Wohl (EMEA Channel Manager, Trusteer, Boston, USA).
The organisers also stated that several papers will be presented at the event, such as ‘Positioning PoS at the Merchant in a Cashless Environment’; ‘Innovation in Payment Systems through Shared Services’; and ‘Protecting Online and Mobile Banking from Financial Malware and Fraud’.
