"ChatON 2.0 now takes this one step further, enabling users to access the service from multiple devices for a true multi-screen user experience," said Craige Fleischer, Director of Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics South Africa (SA).
Web access, as well as social media login options on networks like Facebook, Twitter and Weibo to ChatON have also been enabled.
Samsung is confident new features such as Special Buddy, which allows the creation of mini social profiles and updates from third party vendors, and its increased software access will lead to higher user frequency.
A subscriber survey revealed there is no problem with the functionality of the service, but rather with a low user number which limits mass utilisation.
The mobile brand announced improved accessibility just one day after the Chinese social chat app was released in South Africa, tightening the competitive tension between players in the local industry.
ChatON was originally released for South African users in December 2010.
