HumanIPO reported in December that Nigerian app makers Afrinolly were launching the global competition aimed to encourage and discover African filmmakers.
“The Afrinolly Short Film Competition is aimed at digitally showcasing African cinema talent and providing a platform to foster the generation of African content and make some available online. It is supported by MTN, Goethe Institut, BlackBerry, IREP and Google as the social media partner,” said the company.
More than 500 entries were received for the competition which spanned 14 countries around the world.
The 20 finalists are split into two categories, namely Short Film and Documentary. Ten competitors have been selected for each category on the basis of “the narrative’s imagination and originality, the plot’s ability to attract and retain the viewer’s attention, clarity of purpose and an overall professional impression”.
Voting opened on Friday, February 15 and ends on Friday, March 8 and those interested can view the films and vote for their favourite short film and/or documentary here.
Winners will be announced on Monday, March 11.
