The design of the novel technology came about after the team realised there is a market gap in terms of quality displays.
Traditionally, transparency is achieved by sacrificing either black or white, which also causes loss of colour vibrancy.
Full colour and control over transparency in any kind of lighting is possible with the new technology.
Speaking to HumanIPO, Alex Baroutsos, managing director at Bottomline, said: “We looked at the technologies we work with daily from both a hardware and a software point of view and came up with this idea of how to produce a display where we could control both colour and transparency independently."
The transparent display will enhance user experience on a variety of mobile activities, including freestyling units and animation.
“The innovation of this is really beautiful,” Baroutsos said.
According to the software developer, the response from both abroad and local is “overwhelming”.
Although the company previously worked with international clients from the United Kingdom Germany and the majority from the United States, such as Microsoft, the main overseas interest comes from Europe at present.
No official partnerships are announced up to date, as the company are also sorting through local offers streaming in after the premier at CeBIT, the director explained.
“A lot of people talk about innovation coming from all over and everywhere else the but we are proud that it is all being done, developed in South Africa,” Baroutsos said.
He urged the public to keep an eye out for the new developments: “ It is not our first idea, probably our 1000th idea, and we’ve got many more.”
The business is known for their work both locally and internationally for software design and development of online, offline, mobile and touch screens.
Recent projects include a 55 inch interactive holographic displays for Smirnoff in Casablanca.
Like other software development companies, such as iKubu, the group uses their projects to fund further research and product development.
Designing the ideas, Bottomline partners with hardware company Human Interactive Technology to build the innovative technology.
Baroutsos believes: “Collaboration is often the key to success.
“We have a strong focus on the bottomline where we actually focus most of our time, resources into getting new technology.
“If you don’t change with the times, you will get left behind.”
