The Afrikaans newspaper Die Beeld reported the research institute Media Tenor analysed 2,422 quotes within the various forms of media in South Africa between January 1 and December 31 last year.
This led to the compilation of the list of South Africa’s most influential media platforms.
The Sunday Times previously held the title for six years and is now in second place.
According to Media Tenor, City Press established itself through its progress over the course of the last three years.
This resulted in the publication being the most quoted, or the most influential platform within South Africa’s media industry.
Rieyaad Hartley, one of Media Tenor’s researchers said Ferial Haffajee, editor of City Press, contributed to the publication’s influence through her debates on the controversial “The Spear” painting by Brett Murray as well as her commentary regarding politics.
