The OnBeat headphones are seeking funding on Kickstarter and are expected to retail at US$119 and be shipped in February 2014.
The startup says it is currently lining up a manufacturer in order to make an initial production run, with the hope of getting a minimum order of 2,500 sets.
The funds, the startup says, will help in completion of the designs and ordering of injection moulding tooling, electronic development completion to optimise solar capture and product testing, as well as as producing, packaging and shipping them to your doorstep.
The headphones can also be charged via USB directly from computers and main sockets when the weather does not allow sunny conditions.
Anderson describes the challenges in creating the headphones as including the manufacture of the product, which is complicated with the possibility of an alteration of the prototypes design.
Another challenge includes the fact that the headphones will have to be manufactured internationally, hence the possibility of minor delays and complications in production.
