The partnership is set to bring 350,000 tracks, from more than 400 artists, to users of 2go, the majority of which are people with low-end feature phones.
Adi Nduka-Agwu, head of business development at iROKO Partners, said: “We are bringing Nigerian music to the millions with this partnership and we’re thrilled to be working with 2go to connect with new, young and music-obsessed audiences across continental Africa.”
HumanIPO reported in January iROKO Partners had opened its first South African office in Johannesburg and the move could have proven instrumental in setting up the partnership with South African startup 2go.
The two companies have also launched iroking.2go.im, which enables searching and sharing music and providing industry news.
Peter Lockhart, of 2go, said: “Our users love music, so we’re excited to give them access to the latest Nigerian music and music news for free on their mobile phones.”
