While issuing the award in recognition of Ericsson’s LTE TDD/FDD converged network solution, the competition organisers cited the benefits to the ICT industry and mostly to mobile broadband users given the solution can maximise the value of spectrum resources for operators using both spectrums.
The solution was also awarded due to its potential to transform governments and various industries including entertainment, transportation, education, healthcare and energy with economies of scale.
“We are excited to be receiving this award from GTI. Interoperability is extremely important for the growth of the LTE ecosystem and forms the foundation for the Networked Society,” said Ulf Ewaldsson, Ericsson’s chief technology officer.
“Ericsson views TDD and FDD as two variants of the same technology and we offer solutions for both based on the same platform. We have been committed to driving the standardization and globalization of TD-LTE from the very beginning.”
The award was also in recognition of the role played by Ericsson in China mobile space by providing a commercially verified LTE TDD/FDD converged network making it the first dual mode HD VoLTE call based on multi-mode chipsets launched in December last year.
The GTI Award program aims to recognise the success of industry players in the TD-LTE ecosystem and encourage the industry to develop innovative products and solutions that address the opportunities and challenges faced by GTI operators.
