Vodacom declared its plans to join in the green campaign by switching off electrical connections in 15 of its offices, major advertising billboards and national signage throughout South Africa from 8.30pm-9.30pm.
Maya Makanjee, chief officer for corporate affairs at Vodacom, said: “Although Earth Hour lasts only one hour, the awareness that it creates for the importance of sustainable practices around the world, is priceless.
“This is why we are committed to showing our support.”
Makanjee also revealed the company’s commitment to energy efficiency programs to reduce its energy footprint.
She referred to the recent installation of the largest system of solar panels on a single building in Africa at its offices in Century City, Cape Town.
Earth Hour is a global initiative to create awareness on climate change.
HumanIPO reported on Tuesday Vodacom spoke out on price reduction, claiming more competition is needed.
