Sanral has decided to implement its controversial Winelands toll project on the N1 and N2 highways, which was initially halted in 2011.
The City of Cape Town said it is very concerned about Sanral’s e-tolling plans and has plans of its own to interdict Sanral’s decision because it is apparently not adhering to a court order, which ordered a review of the whole process.
The City of Cape Town said it received a 45 day notice of Sanral’s intention to begin construction that will be carried out between Cape Town and Worcester, which covers an area of 100km on the N1 highway. Construction might start next month.
Ian Ollis and Brett Herron, Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors tweeted about the City of Cape Town’s intentions to appeal for a high court interdict.
Ian Ollis tweeted:
Sanral has decided to implement Toll Roads in Western Cape. DA is preparing urgent legal action. So now our opposition to E-tolls is clear?
