Kenya's ICT Cabinet Secretary Dr.Fred Matiangi
HumanIPO reported on Tuesday COFEK has withdrawn their participation in the committee citing broken promises on their allegedly proposed leadership of it.
Speaking to journalists, ICT Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said he is unaware of the concerns and that there had never been a deal between the government and the consumer lobby.
"How do you make a deal with an individual on public policy? Everyone is a consumer, it is false for COFEK to move around claiming we had a deal. How can we have a deal on public policies,” Matiangi said
“We brought COFEK on board, we agreed on the modalities of working so that we can put our heads together as we move forward so that Kenyans can enjoy best of both worlds but they have not been attending our meetings,” said CCK director-general Francis Wangusi.
“We have not short changed anybody, in fact we need them so that we can migrate smoothly to digital broadcasting.”
HumanIPO reported in June COFEK had withdrawn a court case that was blocking the analogue broadcasting switch-off.
The renewed conflict may set the stage for another court battle as COFEK has said it will go back to court.
