The maximum length of t.co wrapped links has been extended from 20 to 22 characters for non-https URL links and 23 characters for https URLs, from the old length of 21 characters.
The revision was originally announced in December, Twitter providing users with a two-month warning period to prepare for the change, which will mainly affect app developers.
“Ensure that your application is prepared to handle this change by that date,” Twitter told developers in December.
Effectively, the changes mean users will have two characters less per Tweet when including a link. For Tweets not including links, the number of characters has not changed.
