HumanIPO reported earlier today Obi Asika, chairman of the Local Organising Committee for SMWLagos2013, believed the five-day event, which ended on Friday, had “overachieved”, but planning appears to have already begun for next year.
Asika wants UNILAG to host a youth hub because of the institution’s large number of students and abundant venues and facilities.
He said: “[The university] has 45,000 students with various venues and facilities including UNILAG FM. We will do that next year God-willing.”
Apart from UNILAG, he said next year’s edition would be spread across the city in order to get more people actively involved.
In addition, he said more partners will be participating in the week-long series of events and activities.
“What we plan to improve upon next year is to spread it around Lagos. We will have morepartners and more resources. We are going to have a tech hub as a designated centre to give more partners opportunity to do more things,” Asika said.
He noted the expansion was as a result of the organisers’ realisation that many technological innovations are happening in Lagos and there is the need to create more avenues to showcase as many as they can within the event.
He said: “We couldn’t showcase so many things this year. What you’ll find is that Nigerians and Lagosians don’t really know what is going on, they don’t know.
“It is disappointing because lot of stuff is happening and people need to be aware because they are lost.”
