Danquah Institute has put the government on spot over the project to clarify the nature of the PPP since there were other similar projects that got bungled.
The Hope City project aims to construct a hub where the country’s ICT sector will grow and flourish. The project is being done in collaboration with rLG Communications, an ICT firm. The nature of the agreement between the government and rLG Communications is what is concerning Danquah Institute.
“The Hope City project is said to be a PPP project. The brochure launching Hope City says this US$10 billion project is being done ‘in collaboration with the Government of Ghana, as part of the National Development Policy Framework’,” they said in a statement.
“The Danquah Institute maintains that government must be proactive in providing the environment plus other opportunities for the private sector, Ghanaian private sector, especially, to enable them to grow to create wealth, jobs and other opportunities for the greater benefit of society.”
Danquah Institute is calling on the government to make the content of the partnership public, to enable transparency and accountability throughout the project.
