The new range of prepaid pricing provides data bundles - known as “MyMeg” and “MyGig” bundles - aimed at different levels of data usage by new and existing customers, with more prolific data usage attracting higher savings.
The promotion sees Vodacom acknowledge the preference for mobile internet by smartphone users, with the company noting users in particular want social media access to be more affordable on smartphone devices.
“The market is rapidly moving towards smartphones and we’d like our customers to enjoy more Facebook, Twitter and email whenever they want. We hope the new promotional rates will enable them to do just that,” said Phil Patel, chief officer of Vodacom’s Consumer Business Unit.
The MyGig 20 bundle offers customers the highest savings, with 20GB of data costing ZAR499 (US$54) amounting to an 84 per cent cut, which equates to a saving of ZAR2,700 (US$292).
For new and casual internet users, Vodacom has halved the cost of smaller data bundles. The cheapest - and smallest - bundle, the MyMeg 30 plan, now costs ZAR12 (US$1.30) down from the current price of ZAR25 (US$2.70).
However, the promotional pricing will be limited to a one month time-frame, starting today, and lasting until April 30. The bundles will expire after midnight on the 30th day from purchase.
