YouTube celebrates VHS anniversary
YouTube yesterday celebrated the 57th anniversary of the VCR with a special one-off VHS mode on the video-sharing site.

 


In honour of the birthday, YouTube users were able to experience videos on the site as if they were VHS tapes.


Users needed only to enable the new mode to view videos as they were in the past, complete with fuzziness, static and a warped view when the video is paused.


The feature was only enabled on a certain selection of YouTube videos.


The first VCR - the Ampex VRX-1000 - launched in 1956, costing US$$50,000.
