The terms of the acquisition have yet to be disclosed, though Mailbox will remain a separate app, with the entire team joining Dropbox.
“After spending time with Gentry (Underwood), Scott (Cannon), and the team, it became clear that their calling was the same as ours at Dropbox—to solve life’s hidden problems and reimagine the things we do every day,” Dropbox co-founders Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi said in a blog post. “We all quickly realized that together we could save millions of people a lot of pain.”
The Dropbox co-founders believe by adding features they can grow the company's value from the current US$4 billion, having added photo uploading features in the last year following its acquisition of Snapjoy. Mailbox has attracted 1.3 million reservations since its launch and is delivering 60 million messages per day.
