Vusi Mona, a spokesperson for Sanral told Independent Online News on Friday: “Statements in this regard are mischievous and intended to influence public opinion in a particular direction. Sanral has never said it intends to start with the project or to conclude the concession contract on 20 April 2013.”
Mona said this in response to a statement by the City of Cape Town on Wednesday.
However, Eye Witness News (EWN) reported today that Sanral had already served the Council with notice that it intends to go ahead with the project, though the agency agreed to not appoint a concessionaire to head the N1-N2 Winelands Toll Road Project before the month of June. This is according to the City of Cape Town.
“Only after the appointment of a concessionaire, and once funding has been secured, can the necessary works under the project be carried out,” said Mona, who also said the process of negotiating contracts is a lengthy and time consuming process.
Brett Herron from the City of Cape Town told EWN the Western Cape High Court has set two days to heat their urgent application.
“Sanral has indicated to us that they will extend the deadline to 1 June and that gives us time to argue the matter in the high court,” said Herron.
