Following ethnic clashes in the Tana River district last year, Safaricom responded to calls for assistance by providing KSh10 million (US$119,000) for rebuilding and to help the families displaced by the turmoil.
Bob Collymore, chief executive officer (CEO) of Safaricom, on Tuesday spent the day visiting the area and viewing the progress made over past months with the Safaricom funds.
“I visited three villages... and was very pleased to see the progress being made, not just in the rebuilding of the communities and their homes but I was also impressed by the peace building efforts made by the leaders of the two previously warring communities,” Collymore told HumanIPO.
However, access to healthcare is an aspect of the regrowth work which still lags behind, says Collymore.
“Having said that, there is still much work to be done especially in the provision of accessible medical care in some of the more remote villages in the Tana Delta,” he said.
